VISUAL RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
We help directors and productions take the first steps towards interpreting their scripts and stories visually by connecting story to art so they go hand in hand, as projects move toward greenlight and pre-production. We pride ourselves in providing filmmakers who are originating projects and driving vision with imagery and visual tools to help them communicate their vision, creative intent, and deliver on and present the creative potential of a project and what makes it stand out.
Our experience working with directors, producers, production designers, studio executives, and artists from inception to greenlight to pre-production gives us experience, insight, and positioning to foster a common language and working dialogue around the art process and to create imagery that gets to the core of the story and pairs narrative with imagery. We work to create imagery that is fundamentally in line with what the creative stakeholders of a project want to explore and see. Our goal is for this early imagery to help projects secure funding, talent, and greenlights and be used to communicate creative vision to the studio and on-boarding crew members.

PROCESS
Each project starts with a conversation about what our clients want to visualize, their goals, scope, and how the client wants to approach the project. After that, we take time to align creatively, often using reference imagery, collages, and moodboards. These early found images help form the basis for understanding what is inside the director’s head regarding tone, specific direction, what he or she is drawn to, and even what he or she wants to avoid.
Once we are aligned on goals and vision, we talk about the images and sequences we want to work up into concept art and storyboards. We cast the talent to execute the pieces and begin an iterative work flow with reviews. Alongside the filmmaker, Filmscape oversees the artist’s work to get the best out of them and make sure their work is aligning with what the filmmaker or creative stakeholder is looking to achieve.
We work with an arsenal talented and skilful art directors, concept artists, illustrators, and storyboard artists to bring our client’s ideas to life. While our team works primarily in 2D modalities, we have friendly alliances and can partner with previs and VFX houses for projects that require 3D visualization and exploration.
